Connect Claude, your email, and ScoutTracker
Set up Claude step by step. Connect your email account and ScoutTracker, then check that both work.
You ask Claude to help with an email or plan your day. You may already use it like a Chief of Staff. Now give it the right connections.
Start here: ScoutTracker works with Claude
A Chief of Staff helps you stay organized and follow through. Claude helps you think and plan. ScoutTracker holds your tasks and the notes that remind you what they mean. You stay in charge.
ScoutTracker is made to work with Claude. You can edit tasks on the dashboard yourself, but Claude cannot read or update them until you connect the two accounts. Set this up now, before the rest of the course.
For this lesson, you need a Claude account, a ScoutTracker account, and access to your email. Use a computer and open claude.ai in a web browser for setup. Your Claude plan or workplace rules may limit which connectors you can use.
Do this now
Open claude.ai and ScoutTracker in two browser tabs. Sign in to each account. Keep both tabs open while you work through this lesson.
What is a connector?
A connector is a link between Claude and another app. Think of it as a door you choose to open. An email connector may let Claude find messages. A calendar connector may let it read your schedule. The ScoutTracker connector lets it read and save tasks.
Each connector has its own tools and permissions. Permission means what you allow it to do. Some tools only read. Others can make changes. Read the approval screen. Never assume that a connector can send email just because it can read email.
You connect your email directly to Claude, not to ScoutTracker. ScoutTracker does not need your email password. Connecting ScoutTracker does not also connect your inbox or calendar. Set up each service on its own.
Do this now
Open Claude’s Settings → Connectors. Find your email service and read what access it requests. Decide whether that access fits your workplace rules before you approve anything.
Part 1: Connect your email to Claude
1. Sign in at claude.ai. Open Settings, then Connectors. Look for Gmail (Google Workspace) or Microsoft 365 for work or school Outlook email. Choose the account you actually use for work.
2. Choose Connect beside that service. If Claude shows a list of available connectors first, find your service there. Sign in to your email provider when its sign-in page opens. Do not paste your password into a Claude chat.
3. Read the access request. Approve only if the account and permissions are right. For a work account, your organization may need to allow the connection first. Return to Claude and check that the service is connected.
Microsoft 365 needs a supported work or school account and approval from your Microsoft administrator. Personal Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts are not supported by that connector. If it is unavailable, ask your workplace for an approved option rather than entering a personal account.
4. Open a new Claude chat. Check its tools or connector menu and make sure your email service is available. Ask Claude to find one recent, non-sensitive email you recognize. Compare the sender and subject with your inbox. Ask it not to send or change anything.
If your provider is not listed, do not choose a different provider and expect it to read your inbox. Check Claude’s connector help or ask your workplace which approved option to use. You can still share a safe email excerpt with Claude, but that is not a connected email account. Finish email setup before marking this lesson complete.
Do this now
Follow steps 1–4 now. Ask Claude to find a recent email by sender or subject, without sending or changing anything. Check the result against your inbox before moving on.
Part 2: Connect your ScoutTracker account to Claude
1. Sign in to ScoutTracker with the account you will use for your tasks. Open the connection guide below and copy the live connector address. It ends in /mcp.
2. Go back to Claude. Open Settings, then Connectors. Choose Add custom connector. A custom connector is an app you add with its own web address instead of choosing from the ready-made list.
3. Name it ScoutTracker. Paste the full connector address into the server URL field. Leave any optional advanced fields alone unless your organization gave you instructions. Add the connector, then choose Connect if asked.
4. Claude opens a ScoutTracker approval page. Sign in with the same account you use for your dashboard. Read the request and choose Approve. Return to Claude and check that ScoutTracker is connected.
5. Open a Claude chat with ScoutTracker available in its tools. Ask for your daily briefing. An empty task list is fine. A connection error is not. Then use the prompt below to save a test task. Open your ScoutTracker dashboard and check its title and note.
6. Ask Claude to remove the test task, then check that it is gone from the dashboard. If Claude asks you to reconnect, finish that sign-in and approval before trying again. If your workplace added ScoutTracker for everyone, you may still need to connect your own account.
Do this now
Open the ScoutTracker connection guide below. Follow steps 1–6 now. Use the test prompt, check the saved task on your dashboard, and ask Claude to remove it only after you have checked it.
Open the connection guideBefore you finish lesson one
You are ready when Claude has read a real email through your chosen email connector and saved a test task to your own ScoutTracker dashboard. Confirm both below, then mark this lesson complete. These are your checks, not an automatic account check by ScoutTracker.
Claude does not watch all your chats or check your inbox all day just because you connect these apps. It uses the tools available when you ask it to work. Calendar access also needs its own connector. Keep checking in, and ask Claude to read current tasks and changes before it advises you.
Do this now
Confirm the two connection checks at the end of this lesson. If either test failed, return to that setup step. Mark the lesson complete only after both tests work.
Ask Claude
Help me test my connections. Use my email connector to find this recent email: [sender or subject]. Tell me the sender and subject so I can check my inbox. Do not send or change any email. Then use ScoutTracker to give me my daily briefing. Save a task called “Check my ScoutTracker connection” with the note “This is a setup test for lesson one.” Tell me if either tool fails. Do not claim the task is saved unless the save worked. Wait while I check the dashboard, then ask before removing the test task.
